Summary of Position

The Strategic Sourcing Specialist is responsible strategic sourcing, vendor management and support for all fitness and sporting goods products in Canada and internationally.

Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing

  • Recommends and develops sourcing strategies to maximize value and mitigate risks, including sourcing new suppliers overseas
  • Negotiates with suppliers to secure optimum cost and maximum value (price, lead times, order quantities etc)
  • Identifies and implements performance metrics to measure supplier performance
  • Reviews preliminary contracts and distribution agreements from suppliers to ensure purchasing is done in accordance of the contract, and Canadian Laws (e.g. making sure there are no exclusivity agreements held elsewhere, bi-lingual packaging available, licenses needed for import of certain goods)
  • Manages supplier contractual agreements to ensure compliance
  • Maintains in depth knowledge of category trends, as well as, strategic sourcing  best practices 
  • Manage product lines and life cycles through strategic planning to tactical activities
  • Work collaboratively with the Marketing team on new product development including sample development, forecasting, costing and pricing input 
  • Attends trade shows and industry events to remain current with market trends
  • Provides category and strategic sourcing subject matter expertise

 

Vendor Management

  • Plans, manages, and evaluates all purchasing activities
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with all vendors
  • Reviews and approves vendor set up and vendor information changes
  • Maintains product quality control by inspecting new product shipments and reporting back for continuous improvement
  • Analyzes defective product returns, reports back to the manufacturer and  negotiate credits or replacements
  • Approve product to be shipped from overseas after pre-production samples approved

 

Support

  • Collect and update product specifications
  • Include all product information in item profile upon setup including item and packaged dimensions along with any additional information required on an item.
  • Answer specific product related questions from customers
  • Communicate all spec changes, selling features, benefits, and ETA’s to creative department, sales team and customer service for updates to website, catalogue, sell sheets and price lists in advance of product arrivals
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and customer service on existing product changes 
  • Coordinate new item orders with Purchasing and Inventory Control Coordinator and General Manager and plan transition of replacement items where applicable
  • Implement quality control structure including pre-production sample inspection and testing protocols
  • Contribute to sales and marketing meetings by educating staff on products and their positioning in the marketplace 

 

Qualifications

  • College Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or Supply Chain Management.
  • Five years of supply chain experience, preferably in the fitness or sporting goods industry
  • Demonstrated understanding of integrated supply chain and logistics concepts and theories.
  • Demonstrated skills in sourcing and vendor negotiations
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Excel with ability to do pivot tables, v-look up, macros, h look ups, filters, multi-level sorting, sub-totals, if then else formulas, charts and graphs
  • Strong mathematical skills with ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages and averages required
  • Mandarin language proficiency is an asset.
